Transparency and sourcing

How Bankular collects and presents banking data

Bankular organizes public financial-institution records into searchable profiles and location pages. This page explains the sources, update process and limitations behind that information.

Editorial principles

Public records first

Source-labelled

Key data areas identify the agency or dataset from which the information was obtained.

Date-aware

Financial figures and rates are displayed with a report, capture or source-update date when available.

No false precision

Missing or uncertain values are shown as unavailable rather than estimated without a defensible basis.

Primary sources

Where the data comes from

FDIC

Bank identity, status, headquarters, branch locations and institution-level financial information from FDIC BankFind Suite data services.

NCUA

Federally insured credit-union identity, charter, membership, office and quarterly financial-report datasets.

Federal Reserve

Selected economic and reference-rate series used to provide context around banking products and market conditions.

CFPB and other agencies

Consumer complaint, mortgage-lending, small-business and other public datasets may be added where they materially improve an institution or location page.

Normalization

How records are cleaned and linked

Bankular preserves official institution identifiers such as FDIC certificate numbers and NCUA charter numbers. Those identifiers are used as stable matching keys when records are refreshed.

Institution names, addresses, states and cities are standardized for display and search without changing the underlying official identifier. Physical branch pages are linked to their parent institution profile wherever a reliable match exists.

Financial values are converted into consistent display units only when the source documentation clearly defines the reported unit. The source value and report date remain the reference point.

Update process

Resumable, logged synchronization

  1. 1

    Fetch

A source connector requests a bounded batch from the public dataset.

  2. 2

    Validate

Required identifiers and names are checked before a record can be inserted or updated.

  3. 3

    Upsert

Existing records are updated by official identifier; new identifiers create new profiles.

  4. 4

    Log

Processed, inserted, updated and failed counts are recorded so interrupted jobs can resume safely.

Limitations

What Bankular does not guarantee

  • Public datasets may be delayed, revised or temporarily unavailable.
  • Branch hours, services, phone numbers and routing instructions can change between source updates.
  • Advertised deposit rates may depend on balance, term, membership, location or other eligibility conditions.
  • Bankular is not a bank, credit union, regulator, broker or financial adviser.
Transaction-critical information: confirm routing numbers, account terms, rates, branch availability and institution status directly with the relevant institution or regulator before acting.

Corrections

Report a data issue

When reporting an issue, include the page URL, the field that appears incorrect, the correct value and a reliable supporting source. Verified corrections are applied without changing the original official identifier.
